Get Organized for Exams (and Home Improvement Projects!)

12/1/2021

It is exam season!  If you've got semester exams coming up, now is the time to be preparing and studying.  While many people choose to procrastinate, taking a bit of time to plan out how, when, and what to study can go a long way to being prepared!

This same process can be used for your home improvement projects!  So, even if you're not taking exams, read on!  I'll take you step-by-step in how to divide up your time and project into smaller tasks to make it easy to tackle.

1. Start with the end goal:
What is the date of the exam?  What is your home improvement project finish date?

2. Make a list of tasks:
C
ome up with a list of tasks needed to accomplish your goal.  For exams, write a list of units or topics covered on the exam.  Then make note of your study tools.  For example, did the teacher provide a review sheet?  Can you use the unit tests and quizzes to study?  Can you use your study guides from each unit to prepare?

It's that time of year!  Students are getting back to school!

Kids can get SO excited about going back to school, seeing old and meeting new friends, picking out their outfits, and purchasing new school supplies.  They crave both the newness and also the consistent routines.

Organizing Your Desk Drawers

10/7/2020

Square photo of dark wood antique writing desk. The edge of the dark wood chair is visible in the bottom right corner. The desk is cleared off with two items: a small white smooth vase with pink plastic flowers. On the left of the desk, there is a greeting card with aqua background and matching pink flowers.
This is a great time to reorganize your desk!

First of all, do you have a desk that supports your current needs?  Is it big enough?  In the right location?  Is your chair the right height and does it give you the right amount of support?

Reflect:
Let’s say that your desk is good to go… Now what?  Consider how much “stuff” you like to have on your desk.  Do you like it clean and completely cleared off?  Do you like to have things out where you can see them?  There’s no right answer.  This is about knowing yourself and what supports your work and helps you to focus.

Corner of silver mac laptop computer with black keys, a white USB to ethernet adaptor cord plugged into a white ethernet cable; all on a light brown desk
Attending a lot of Zoom calls these days?  It's the worst when your internet has an unstable connection... you miss what people are saying, images freeze, they can't hear you, and you might even get kicked out of the meeting!

A simple thing that has helped me tremendously has been investing in an ethernet cable.  Instead of using wifi, I instead plug my computer directly into the router box using the cable.  This has made an incredible positive difference in both my productivity and the quality of my online meetings.

Because I have a mac laptop, I also had to purchase an Apple USB Ethernet Adaptor.
