Example Client:  Setting up a Paper System
Here is an example of what working together can look like:
The client had papers piling up in multiple rooms on tables and counters and was keeping important action item papers visible so as not to forget to complete them.  We spent time discussing where paper tasks were completed and created one central location for all papers.  Then, we went through papers one at a time to talk through what needed to be digitized, shredded, kept available as reference, or put in an "action" spot.  After we had created a simple system and had gone through some of the papers, the client felt comfortable to complete the process.

Everyone's needs are different, so it is important to have these conversations about papers in order to set up a system that will actually work for each individual.   There's no "one size fits all"!

Example Client:  Optimizing a Tiny Kitchen
This client chose to divide the hour into two half-hour session spaced one week apart.  During our first half-hour virtual session, the client discussed the frustrations that the kitchen was causing:  the kitchen was very small with limited storage space.  The counters were, therefore, covered with pantry items, it was difficult to find items, and there was a lot of visible clutter.  The client gave a tour, opening each of the cupboards and describing how often the items in each space were used.

We discussed several options for rearranging the cupboards and came up with a short "to do list".  Extra pantry food items were moved into difficult to reach cupboards since they did not need to be easy to access.  Food, such as bread and chips, were moved onto the now-available shelving.  The most convenient drawer was converted into a "coffee spot", which had just the necessary items to make frequent pots of coffee.  Several additional cupboards were rearranged:  cloth grocery bags were moved to the front door area and frequently-used pots and pans were moved closer to the stove.

During the second virtual half-hour session, the client gave another tour of the kitchen, opening and closing cabinets.  We discussed what was now working and what needed adjusting.  Several additional changes were made to the kitchen, such as storing water bottles and sodas under a couch so that they were out of sight.  The best part was how thrilled the client was about the coffee drawer!  It didn't have any extra items in it, and it brought the client joy just to open it!
