How My Sock Drawer Helps Me Pray

10/25/2021

Guest Blog Post by Heather Bayless

Can I share with you a quirky confession?  Of all the areas of my home that need organizing, I am most particular about my sock drawer.  For years I have kept everything color coordinated to Pinterest perfection.

Patterned socks go to the left, work socks in the middle, and tights to the right. It’s my favorite spot to organize. It’s not a drawer I’m about to throw open for my guests to inspect but I’m oddly proud of how well I manage that two feet of space. I don’t pretend to be perfect: my abode is full with uncared for corners and neglected nooks. My dining table is used more for junk mail than communion, and I write this after having eaten 10 York peppermint patties in one sitting. But there is something persistently important to me about this sock drawer.

On Clutter-Free Holiday Gifting

11/12/2020

"Give experiences, not things."
"Give them the gift of less stuff."
"Connection over consumption."

I've been seeing this message everywhere lately, and it could not be more timely. At no time in human history has there ever been more stuff for us to acquire and accumulate. But do any of us really need more items, objects, or things?

Today's blog post is written by guest author, Kammy Lee, certified KonMari Consultant and professional home organizer.

Bringing your VHS memories back!

8/20/2020

Guest author Soledad Buznego shares tips on how to digitize your VHS family videos!

This summer I challenged myself to bring back all my childhood memories that were sleeping at my parent’s house in boxes and boxes. If you are an 80s kid like me, you will then know that the only format that can give testimony of how you looked, how you moved, how you played and how you sounded are VCR videos.

I did know it wasn't going to be an easy task – not because of the IT part, as I consider myself a bit nerdy on that aspect – but because it meant bringing back vivid pictures that captured the essence of so many people whom I loved and who are sadly not here with me anymore (my grandpas, aunts, uncles). So, I prepared myself for an emotional task – oh yeah!

KonMari tackles sentimental items (such as photos, memorabilia, heirlooms, etc.) as the last category of the tidying festival, because when you reach to this point you have already honed your spark joy sensibility and are in a better position to decide whether an item will serve a good purpose in your life. By the time I did my tidying festival -I have to be honest- I didn’t check these cassettes (shame on me! I know) but mainly because I had forgotten they even existed and because they were not 100% mine, they were my whole family’s.

Productivity Tips for Working from Home while Homeschooling

8/17/2020

Today's Guest Author is Janine Morales, a Professional Organizer from San Diego, California. She is KonMari certified and helps her clients make decisions about their belongings and create a home that sparks joy.

Productivity Tips for Working from home while homeschooling

If you are in the same boat as me, you might be homeschooling your kids this semester. When I heard the news that California was not going to open schools until January, I officially acquired another (unpaid) part-time job: Teacher. Many schools are planning to go online or have a hybrid program until things with COVID19 are figured out. What does that mean for working parents? Setting up a home office and creating a schedule for everyone. As a former teacher gone Organizer, I will share five tips on how to create a productive and healthy workspace for every member of the family while homeschooling.
